The National Water Hygiene (‘Blue Card’) is a mandated scheme and plays a vital part in ensuring the protection of public health and promoting good water hygiene practices. The scheme has been developed in collaboration with all UK water companies. 
 
All UK water companies require individuals entering clean water sites or working on the clean water network – known as ‘Restricted Operations’, to hold a National Water Hygiene EUSR registration. 
 
‘Restricted Operations’ includes working on service reservoirs, water pumping stations, water treatment works, wells, springs, boreholes as well as working on the network of water mains and service pipes.

The e-learning scheme consists of 10 modules covering awareness of safe water hygiene practices:

Module 2: The importance of water 
Module 3: Water Is Food 
Module 4: Water as a carrier of disease 
Module 5: Restricted Operations 
Module 6: Potential causes and consequences of contamination: Water Treatment and Storage 
Module 7: Potential causes and consequences of contamination: Water Network 
Module 8: Preventing Contamination 
Module 9: Disinfection 
Module 10: Ensuring Quality: Sampling and Audit 
 
Health Screening Requirement 
 
The first part of the EUSR National Water Hygiene training includes a mandatory health pre-screening. This applies to anyone working in roles with potential contact with treated water -such as water networks, treatment works, or water sampling. 
 
Candidates must pass both the health screening and the assessment to receive their EUSR card. 
 
Navigating 10 short interactive modules - You can drop in and out of the training modules and review as many times as you need, however, once you start the assessment you cannot drop in and out, it must be completed in one hit 
 
Assessment: 25 multiple question, 30-minute final test (pass mark 22) with one free retake 
 
Flexible Access: Train anytime, anywhere on any any chrome enabled device 
 
Once you have successfully completed your National Water Hygiene training and assessment, you will understand the vital part you play in maintaining clean and safe drinking water and protecting public health. You will be issued with a National Water Hygiene EUSR photo ID card or virtual card on your mobile device
